Calling all Scientists!
Winter is the perfect time to start planning for our PTA sponsored Wyngate Science Fair, which will be held on February 20th.
Think up a question, do some research and test your hypothesis by doing an experiment. Collect data, write up your study results, draw pictures, take photos or bring demonstrations to show your results. The possibilities are endless.
Don’t want to do an experiment? Try your hand at interviewing a scientist and presenting your interview at the science fair. You could describe what your scientist(s) had to study in school. Find out how they got interested in science. Describe their work now. Pictures are always a plus!
Your science project presentation must fit on a table in about a 3-foot wide table space. If your poster must be upright be sure to put it on a self-supporting presentation board. We won’t have a way to hang it up.
Students can work alone or in a group from the same or different grades. Parents and other adults in the family can help – but remind them it is YOUR project. This is fun and non-competitive – all students receive a certificate. Projects can be set up on the day of the science fair after 6:30 PM in the All-Purpose Room.
This year we will not have Mad Science demonstrating, if you are a parent in a science field and are able to present an exciting experiment or presentation we would love to hear from you!
Volunteers Needed: We need volunteer scientists to help in these important roles:
1. Scientist judges – We are looking 12-15 volunteer scientists to visit student’s projects and sign certificates of participation. Each volunteer scientists will be asked to visit 10-15 students’ science projects.
2. Scientist presentation – We are looking for 1-3 parent volunteers. We plan to have a presentation from a parent scientist about one of the many exciting fields of science.
3. SSL volunteers- For our alumni, current middle schoolers, to give back to their elementary school while earning ssl hours.
Sign-up genius will be created for students to register their project, for volunteer judges, ssl volunteers and special presentations as the day approaches.
If you have any questions or need additional information contact Simret Belai ([email protected]).
Hope to see many of you!
Sincerely,
The Science Fair Committee
