SPECIAL PTA UPDATE
Wyngate Elementary Community:
Yes, this is yet another COVID-related email hitting your inbox. There’s helpful and important information here from your PTA, so we hope that you’ll take a few minutes to read it.
- AUCTION AND OTHER PTA EVENTS
- The March 27 auction, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year, has been rescheduled for Friday, May 15. We’ll decide whether or not to hold the event based on guidance given by government health officials at that time. Stay tuned for details. In the meantime, please direct any event-related questions to auction co-chairs Jen Boland (jennifer.boland1@gmail.com) and Ashley Schneider (absilver@comcast.net).
- You won’t be surprised to learn that all PTA events scheduled for March (Multicultural Night, Dining Out at California Tortilla) have been postponed. We’ll play it by ear for the April events (WE Cares Cardmaking, PTA Meeting, Wyngate’s Got Talent and Kendra Scott Fundraiser) but anticipate that they may need to be postponed as well.

- RESOURCES
- You should be receiving messages from MCPS about things like online learning and the availability of meals. Mr. Wiebe sends separate, Wyngate-specific emails about things like the Friday Mindful Moments. If you’re not receiving these messages, let us know and we’ll try to post them on the PTA’s website.
- You can find the MCPS Instructional Activities Center HERE.
- This brief video from MCPS will show you how to access resources for your child’s grade level. Be sure to first log out of any personal Gmail accounts in the Chrome web browser and log back in with student credentials that you received via email on Monday with the subject line, “Student myMCPS Classroom Account.”

- KEEPING IN TOUCH VIA THE PTA LISTSERV & SOCIAL MEDIA
- We encourage you to use the PTA’s listserv to keep in touch with the community. This is a terrific place to post articles or resources on managing during the quarantine. You can change your settings so that you receive individual messages or a daily summary.
- Note that there are separate groups for the Wyngate neighborhood, Maplewood-Alta Vista neighborhood and the Wyngate PTA. The subject line of messages from the PTA’s Google Group begin with “[WyngatePTA].” If you’re not part of this moderated group and would like to join, learn more HERE. Questions? Contact Lauren Lamoreux (L_Lamoureux@acs.org) or Maria Turner (mturner@hilltopconsultants.
com).
- Connect with the PTA on Facebook and Instagram and follow Mr. Wiebe on Twitter.

- SUPPORT WYNGATE VIA AMAZON SMILE & BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION
- As you shop online, please use the Amazon Smile program so that 0.5% of your purchases are donated back to the school. To enroll in the program, simply to go smile.amazon.com, search and select Wyngate Elementary PTA or Wyngate Elementary School Foundation, Inc. (Bethesda) as your charity. When you shop, always enter the site through smile.amazon.com and NOT the regular Amazon page or app.
- Participate in the Boxtops for Education program. Instead of clipping Boxtops from packages, just download the app and scan your grocery store receipt within 14 days. This is a great project for the kids! Each participating item earns us $0.10, which adds up quickly.

- SUPPORT RESTAURANTS THAT SUPPORT WYNGATE
- If you’re going to do meal delivery or carry out, please consider patronizing the restaurants that support Wyngate by hosting “dining out” nights that give a portion of the night’s proceeds to the PTA. They are: Chipotle, California Pizza Kitchen, California Tortilla, Moby Dick House of Kabob, Mamma Lucia and Not Your Average Joe’s.

- NATIONAL CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES (NCCF)
- The NCCF is our neighbor on Greentree Road and beneficiary of some community service PTA programs. Though many folks may be doing some early spring cleaning, they ask that the gently used goods that you might otherwise drop off not be left outside their facility. They would be grateful, however, for donations of non-perishable food, wipes, soap or hand sanitizer.

- GRATITUDE
- Finally, we send special thanks to members of our community who are on the front lines of responding to COVID-19 and keeping vital services running. We are deeply appreciative.
We look forward to seeing everyone (hopefully) soon!
