Wyngate PTA’s Book Fair & Related Events

December 3-7, 2018

Join us at the Book Fair to celebrate reading with hundreds of fun, engaging, and affordable books!

What Can You Do at the Book Fair?

  • Explore books with your child and add to your family’s library.
  • Expand your child’s classroom library by purchasing books from his/her teacher’s wish list.
  • Get a head start on your holiday shopping with gifts for readers of all ages.

Why Shop at the Wyngate Book Fair Instead of on Amazon?

Proceeds from the sale allow the media center to expand their collection of books for our children. They also support the PTA’s programming, including the “One School, One Author” event, featuring award-winning author/illustrator Kazu Kibuishi. He’ll visit with our students on December 4 during grade-specific assemblies and will be available to sign copies of his books.

When and How Can I Shop?

During the week of December 3, you’ll be able to shop during the school day, after school, during “late nights,” and new “early bird” hours. (Turn over this page for details.)

Adults may pay by cash, check, or credit card. Students shopping alone may only use cash.

The enclosed flyer highlights some of the books that will be available at the fair. Please DO NOT use the flyer’s form to place an order. Instead, make your purchases in person or online.  

How Can You Help?

We need lots of volunteers to make the book fair successful! Please visit the Signup Genius at and sign up for a two-hour shift. It’s fun way to support the event and meet other parents in the community.

Helping Community Members in Need

Share the gift of reading with the students of Boone Elementary in Southeast, D.C. as they recover from the devastating theft of books from their building. Through Scholastic’s “All for Books” program, we’ll collect funds for books for their library. Additionally, Scholastic’s “Possible Fund” will match our donations (in books) to an organization of their choice.

To participate, have your children place loose change in the collection jar during the week of November 26. When making purchases at the book fair, you may add change to the collection jar or round up credit card purchases to the nearest dollar.

Also, please donate new or gently used winter clothing for our neighbors at the National Center for Children and Families. A collection box will be in front of the media center December 3-7.

Bring in loose change for donation to the “All for Books” campaign


Book Fair Preview Day During School Day; Book Sales 3:25 p.m.— 5:00 p.m. 

Students visit the book fair with their class and bring home their wish list.

Teachers’ wish lists will be posted immediately outside of the media center. If you purchase any of the items for the classroom, please have your child deliver the books to his/her teacher.


Book Sales 9:15 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Meet Kazu Kibuishi; Bake Sale & Pizza Sale; PTA Meeting

 Beginning at 3:45 p.m., Kazu Kibuishi will be outside the media center to autograph books.

An adult MUST accompany children at this event. If attending the book signing changes your child’s normal dismissal plan, please send a note in his/her folder. Children at KidsCo who have a Kibuishi book in their backpack will be escorted to the autograph line by KidsCo staff.

Support the fifth grade at their bake sale (beginning at 3:25 p.m.) & pizza sale, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Shop the fair and then attend the PTA meeting at 7:00 where you’ll hear from Flex Academies, which is a vendor that the PTA is considering engaging to help run after school activities. You’ll also get an important update from our Cluster representatives, hear from the principal, learn about upcoming PTA events and have an opportunity to share your questions/concerns with the community. Complementary babysitting is provided for elementary school-aged children.

Book Sales 7:00 a.m. — 8:00 a.m. & 9:15 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.

An adult MUST accompany any student shopping during the early morning sales hours and

depart the building with him/her until it’s time for the school day to begin.

Book Sales 9:00 a.m. — 11:00 a.m.


WE Cares (Wyngate Elementary Cares) Winter Clothing Drive

Please donate new or gently used clothing to benefit the people served by the National Center for Children and Families. Warm clothing and outwear of all types (boots, snowsuits, hats, gloves, scarves) and sizes (infant to adult) can be placed in the bin outside the media center.
